Aerial Tram Photos

Construction

This view is taken from the middle of Gibbs Street, looking west and up through the temporary supports to the top tower of the tram, with the new Peter Kohler Building at OHSU in the background. These temporary supports will hold the tramway cable while it is being strung between the top tower and the bottom tower, located on SW Moody Street.

Close up of the top tower taken from Southwest Campus Drive. To the left is the concrete core of the top tower. To the right are the galvanized steel legs of the top tower, and in the center is the iron being raised by the "iron heads," as ironworkers are sometimes called. When finished, there will be a solid floor between the core and legs and where passengers will alight before walking across a bridge between the top tower and the 9th floor of the Kohler Building. The sign to the left that says "OHSU" is where the bridge will connect to the building.

Riding the Tram

1 - guide bars out of the upper landing dock

2 - shadow of a doctor and one of my co-passengers

3 - we ride in car 2

4 - pulling away from the upper station, three other passengers ride with me

5 - the curve of our car is non-stop

6 - tram operator doing her job

7 - Operators dress like this because neither car is heated nor air-conditioned

8 - Downtown off to my left

9 - Opposite car on its way up

10 - This is like riding a ski lift, but instead of snow, below us is I-5, Terwilliger, and Macadam, sloping roofs, people on porches who don't look much like they are in the mood for waving, and inclines covered with cars.

And then ten frames into my ride, my batteries died! Check back later to see my ride from the bottom to the extreme top another time.
